The EMsella chair is used to non-invasively improve and strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor. The medical device effectively stimulates the muscles using high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology that causes thousands of contractions per second. This muscle stimulation leads to a strengthened pelvic floor that allows for better control over the core muscles and areas around the bladder.
The EMsella uses focused electromagnetic field to induce powerful muscle contractions. As the muscle tissue is forced to adapt, it responds by strengthened its underlying fibrous structures. The entire process is similar to the natural process that occurs when you voluntarily contract muscles during exercises such as kegels, except the EMsella can actually induce supramaximal contractions which are larger than what a person can induce voluntarily. Such muscles toning and strengthening can be used to treat conditions like incontinence and other pelvic floor muscular issues.
The procedure is completely non-invasive: you simply sit in the chair, comfortably clothed and let the machine do all of the work inducing muscle contractions in the area for 30 minutes. The contractions can be felt deep within your pelvic floor, but are not uncomfortable. Many people can relax and may even enjoy the treatment sessions. Some people find the sensation similar to other muscle stimulation therapies. In general, a treatment plan includes 6 30-minute sessions twice per week; however, each person may require other variations and supplemental treatments.
Another great aspect of this treatment is that there is no downtime.
Back pain can be a result of many different things: overuse, injuries to the muscles, ligaments, and discs that support the spine, muscle strain, bad posture, and other issues and conditions. In order to alleviate pain caused by these issues, the core and back muscles must be strengthened so they can offer structural support to your back and torso.
The EMsculpt and EMsella devices allow patients to perform muscle strengthening exercises without putting pressure on the back or joints and aggravating the underlying injuries. Lower back exercises concentrate on strengthening the abdominal muscles in an effort to bring stabilization to the spine. Core muscle strengthening treatments with the EMsella and EMsculpt can be combined with various exercises to help alleviate common low back pain.
The EMsella device focuses on strengthening the pelvic floor and related core muscles. The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that wrap firmly around passages from other organs such as the bladder, bowel, and uterus (in women). These muscles are used for overall stability and control of the passages such as the urethra from the bladder. In effect, the EMsella treatment helps patients regain control of their pelvic floor muscles and prevent urinary incontinence.
Muscle building treatments have been shown to help with general body contouring and fat reduction, but it also has uses in physical therapy treatment for:
So far studies have shown that there are no safety concerns when using EMsella. Because it is a new technology, relatively little is known about any long-term effects that electromagnetic wave have on the structures of the body. However, due to the nature of the muscle strengthening process, you could expect the following:
